Baby it's cold outside ...

... But the coffee pot is still on at Philpotts ...

We had spent most of the day yesterday warning people that the shop may not be open today (Saturday 23rd March) due to the weather forecast.

Well, we had the snow as expected ... BUT ... WE MADE IT IN!

Unless the snow gets worse we will be here until 4pm and have the coffee pot on waiting for you.

**** If you are coming a distance please do call us before you travel just in case the snow has got worse and we have decided to close up early ****

If you are planning a visit please take care with the journey and we look forward to seeing you!

Water colour workshops ...

Some of you have expressed an interest in the Water colour workshops which are running each month here at Philpotts.  As I have had several questions I thought that I would add this little post to explain a bit more and to show you the projects that I have mentioned to some of you.

The workshop that is running next month (watercolour farm animals) is suitable for beginners and will not require any free hand drawing or any experience at all.

The workshop will involve going through some simple techniques to create hand painted projects which will look as if they have been hand drawn (remember no freehand drawing is involved).  We will look at using both water colour paints as well as water colour pencils and will follow some simple steps for creating a professional finish.

Here are some previous examples of my work for you to see but the projects that we will create during the workshop will not involve any where near as much detail.

If you would like to book on the workshop please follow the link or give us a call.

Coffee & Craft ...

I hope that you all had a lovely weekend and Mothers' Day where ever you are.

We have one place left on the Coffee & Craft Demo morning this Wednesday.
If you would like to come along could you please let me know via e-mail or telephone.

This week I have been asked to go through various ink pads and their uses.  I will try to fit as many different techniques and uses for ink pads into the demo hour which will start at 10am.  After this time please feel free to bring a project along to work on whilst enjoying a cup of coffee (or tea) a piece of cake and a crafty chat.

Look forward to seeing you!

Who said that you can't ....

... teach an old dog new tricks?

I took this piccie of Mr. P. in the workshop this morning making a Mother's Day Card for his Mum.

(...under a little duress I might add as crafting is not really his thing!)

Hope you are impressed ladies!

Coffee, Craft & Demo Morning ...

We had a lovely time making paper flowers at the Coffee, Craft & Demo morning earlier today.

Here are some of the samples that I made during the demo whilst our lovely ladies were enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake.

If you would like to join us next Wednesday (10am-1pm)then please phone us or e-mail to book your place.  The session costs £2.50 which includes a cup of tea/coffee and a piece of cake.  Please note that craft materials are not supplied. The demo lasts  for approx 1 hour.

If you would like to bring a craft project with you to carry on with once the demo has finished then feel free to do so, otherwise you can sit on one of our comfy chairs or the sofa and read a magazine and enjoy some crafty company.

Mother's Day Card ...

This year I have been a little behind with Mother's Day preparations as we have been so busy with family and work but yesterday I could not put off making my wonderful Mum a card any longer so that I could get it in the post along with her pressie in time for the weekend.

Here is the finished card ...part water coloured, part stamped and part paper pieced
... 'mixed media' as they say in the art world!

{Mum if you are reading this ... LOOK AWAY NOW}

I drew the bird onto a piece of background text paper from Making Memories.  After cutting the bird out I painted it with Farrow & Ball {Light Blue} paint using a fairly dry paintbrush so that some of the paper still showed through.

The flowers were stamped using one of our new Woodware flower stamps {some stamps were positioned directly onto the background card and some were stamped onto the scrapbook paper, sanded with a sanding block and cut out}

I drew the birdcage onto Bockingford watercolour paper and coloured with my paints {when dry I went over the pencil lines with a black gel pen}

The finished design was mounted onto bazzill cardstock and onto a base card.

Coffee, Cake & Craft Morning ...

Example only - www.philpotts.com

Wednesday is the first of our new Coffee, Cake & Craft Mornings which will take place each
Wednesday morning 10am - 1pm.

I know that some of you have already signed up for the morning and I look forward to seeing you in the workshop.

I had originally said that you would not need to book for the session and could just turn up.  This will be absolutely fine for this week but the response has been so great that as of next week you will need to book in advance so that we can allocate everyone a seat in the workshop (and of course make sure that we have enough cake).

Several of you have asked what we will be demonstrating this week and as I have had a couple of requests to show you how to make paper flowers I thought that the Coffee morning would be a good time to show you how to make 2-3 types of flower which could be used on your cards, scrapbook pages or to enhance your gift wrapping.

If you would like to join us please let us know via phone or e-mail.  The session costs £2.50 which will include a tea/coffee and a piece of cake.

The demonstration will last for approximately 30 minutes and after this time you will be able to work on projects that you have brought from home or you can try your hand at the demonstration project.

Please note that we do not supply any materials for this workshop.
