Fathers Day Card ...

This year for Fathers Day we are having a little 'occasion' at the Philpott family household for both my Dad and Mr. P.   If the girls are coordinating the event (as they often do) it will involve lots of Balloons, a timed schedule of events and hand-made tickets so that you can gain entry to the living room for their 'musical performance' (which usually involves lots of giggling and then fighting over who is playing what on the piano!)

The girls are well ahead of me this year as they have already made their Daddy's cards ... so ... as I had a little time this afternoon I thought I would get to work on a card for my own lovely Dad.

Here is the result, no time to add instructions or links through to the shopping list today but I hope that you like it!

I am probably not going to get time for a post tomorrow as lots to do but I will be back next week with some more projects ... hope you can join me!

Have a great Weekend!

Coffee & Demo and Fathers Day Part 1

Coffee & Craft Demo morning ...

Thanks to all of you who came on the Coffee & Craft morning yesterday, it was lovely to see you all and one lady in particular whom I had not seen for a while (you know who you are!!)

We made a little spinner card during the session and here is the finished project.  I did have another sample as well but Amy liked it so much she has claimed it as her own and has taken it off to school today to show her Craft teacher!

{Don't forget our new extra demo day on a Friday 10 - 12 noon)

Fathers Day Part 1 ...

I always think that it is such a shame that we do not celebrate Fathers Day with as much passion as we celebrate Mothers Day!  I am sure that you will agree that our Dads are just as special and important to us as our Mums and they deserve to be told just how much we love them!

So whether you want to tell a Dad, Husband, Boyfriend, Grandfather, Son, Brother or Grandson that you love them over the next few weeks we will be showcasing a few projects and gifts all with boys and men in mind.

Let's kick off with a little Robot Card for a special young man!

The base card is 14.5cm x 14.5cm but you could use any size card (providing that the robot will fit).

Taking several coordinating sheets of patterned paper (see below), trim into strips which are approximately 2cm in width.  It really is not that important how wide your strips are so this would be a great card to use up any scraps of paper that you may have!

Trim all of the strips so that they are about 12.5cm long and arrange on the base card so that you have a  white border around each edge as shown.  Once you are happy stick all of these into place.  (NB.  I have deliberately made the strips uneven at the top and the bottom and placed the strips at slight angles to that it all looks a little messy!)

Take a strip of white card approx 2.5cm wide and place horizontally (over the strips) across the whole width of the card (stick into place).

The Robot was created using a sheet of Robot Die Cuts.  Pop out the style of robot that you want from the sheet and position him on the card.

Add some extra detail with a black gel pen to both the robot and the background to give a little definition.

The sentiment was stamped onto white cardstock and backed onto black before sticking into place.

Use rub on numbers to add the age, back this onto white, then patterned and then black cardstock before tucking under the robots hand so that it looks as if he is holding it.

Finally google eyes bring the Robot to life!

Count down to Fathers Day ...

As Fathers Day is just around the corner we thought that we would start to think about projects and gifts suitable for that special man in your life
(whether for Fathers Day, Birthday or just to tell him that you love him).

So over the next few weeks we will be sharing lots of card ideas, gift ideas and other projects all with a male theme.

To start it off we thought that we would share the competition with you that has just gone out in the Newsletter this afternoon.  If you want a chance to win, here is the competition below.

How would you like to win a mini pond yacht for a special man in your life?

Competition ends 12 midnight Sunday 16th June 2013

To be in with a chance to win this coloured mini pond yacht with lacquer finish, wood hull, cotton sails and wooden stand simply send an e-mail to us here at Philpotts including your name and address and we will pick a winner at random once the competition has closed.

* Please note that only one entry per person will be allowed.  All entries must be with us by 12 midnight on Sunday 16th June.  A winner will be picked at random after the competition has closed and the winner will be notified via e-mail.  By entering the competition you agree to receiving e-mails from us in the future that we think you may find interesting. No cash alternative will be offered in place of the prize and we reserve the right to send a substituted item to the same value if this item is out of stock once a winner is chosen.

Make sure that you don't miss out on future Newsletter offers and competitions - pop over to www.philpotts.com and sign up to our Newsletter in the bottom left hand corner if you have not done so already.

Good Luck!

Mini Workshop ... Butterfly Card ...

I have a quick little butterfly card with instructions to share with you today.

The base card was cut from a piece of 12 x 12 Bazzill cardstock.  Cut the card in half so each piece is 12 x 6" (approx 30cm x 15cm) and you will have 2 base cards.

Cut a piece of white cardstock roughly 10cm x 15cm and trim around the outside with decorative scissors (I used pinking shears)

Cut six squares in total from two coordinating pieces of patterned paper.  Each square will be approx 5 x 5cm and will need to be trimmed again with decorative edging scissors.

Before you go any further, place all of the pieces (white card included) onto your base card and make sure that they all fit neatly! (this is because some people will cut more of the edge off with the decorative scissors and some less)

If you are happy with the sizes of everything, edge each piece with a neutral beige ink pad and stick into place on the base card.  I added a little 'dashed' line down the left hand side of each square so that the squares would look as if they had been stitched onto the card.

On a separate piece of cardstock, stamp the butterfly image and trim with scissors.

Stick into place with foam pads so that it is raised off the card.

Add self adhesive gemstones along the body of the butterfly for effect.

Finally add 3 buttons on the left hand side and stamp the sentiment onto the base card to complete the design.
